2/5/08 — Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won the
Republican Party in his home state Tuesday night.

Romney defeated Arizona Sen. John McCain, who he had been
trading barbs with over the past week. Romney was able to sustain
votes among residents of Massachusetts because of his views on
immigration and the economy, according to the Associated Press.

The Democratic race between Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and New
York Sen. Hillary Clinton was still too close to call at 8:30 p.m,
according to the AP.

Voters in Massachusetts placed the
economy as their top issue of concern.

Democrats placed the Iraq War in second
and health care in third, and Republicans placed immigration in second
and the Iraq War and terrorism farther down, according to Associated
Press exit polls.
