Screams and applause drowned out the marching bands when President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama emerged from Cadillac One during this afternoon’s Inaugural Parade.
Ecstatic spectators jammed themselves against barricades to get a glimpse of the Obamas as their limousine rolled to a stop at the corner of 9th and Pennsylvania Avenue near the National Archives and FBI Building.
Handlers opened the door for the beaming President who waved to onlookers before joining his wife behind the car. After joining hands, they walked down Pennsylvania Avenue for half a mile. Later they got out of the limo near the White House and walked a second time for a short distance.
Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden did the same, leaving their limousine and walking. Mr. Biden obviously enjoyed himself immensely when they got near the Presidential Reviewing Stand outside the White House.
He laughed, ran across the street from barricade to barricade, shook hands with the crowd, hugged a young boy, pointed at spectators watching from office buildings. His wife was more subdued as she walked and waved to onlookers.
At one point, the Vice President crouched down and waved at one member of the audience before jogging to catch up with his wife.
Both the Bidens and the Obamas watched the remainder of the parade from the Presidential Reviewing Stand.
Later this evening they will all attend the Inaugural and Commander-in-Chief’s Balls.
